Seven DZL scientists are among the most cited researchers worldwide in 2023 according to the Clarivate Analytics list of "Highly Cited Researchers". The current ranking includes 7,125 researchers from around 70 countries and regions. In a country comparison, Germany ranks fourth in 2023 with 336 "Highly Cited Researchers", behind the USA, China and the UK.

Every year, Clarivate determines how often scientific publications have been cited in the last ten years. Publications are considered highly cited if they are among the top one percent of the most cited publications in their field in their year of publication.
