News on lung cancer screening: TLRC's involvement and research

|   News

On 1 April, Germany launched its lung cancer screening programme for heavy, long-term smokers. The new initiative is designed to support the detection of lung cancer in high-risk populations.  Prof. Dr Hans-Ulrich Kauczor, DZL Principal Investigator and TLRC Director, who played a key role in developing guidelines and position papers on lung cancer screening, was interviewed by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung about the benefits and procedures of the new screening programme. Through his contributions to various guidelines and expert statements, Prof. Kauczor has helped establish this screening programme for at-risk populations, and shape the management of findings that require further investigation. In the interview, he not only explains the benefits of cancer screening, but also the safety aspects of low-dose CT.

Another milestone in lung cancer screening is the completion of the EU-funded project SOLACE. This Europe-wide consortium has developed, tested and disseminated tools to overcome existing bottlenecks and reduce health inequalities in lung cancer screening. After four years, the international project is taking stock of its achievements and summarising its impressive results in a leaflet.
