We are happy to announce that DZL Academy Fellow Ann-Kathrin Daum, (German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Heidelberg), received the 2nd prize of the Takeda Oncology Research Award 2023 for her DZL-funded research on treatment resistance in ALK rearranged non-small cell lung cancer. In this work, she showed that fibroblasts in the tumor microenvironment stimulate the lipid metabolism of cancer cells and thus contribute to therapy resistance. These findings form the basis for further research into the development of new treatment strategies.
