The National Cancer Screening Committee of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection has appointed TLRC Director and DZL Principal Investigator Prof. Dr. med. Hans-Ulrich Kauczor, Medical Director of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD), as a subject-matter expert in lung cancer screening.

In this role, he will support the committee with his expertise in lung cancer and radiological diagnostics. Serving in an honorary capacity, he will act as an international expert during the Austrian committee’s second term of office from 2026 to 2030.

For many years, Prof. Kauczor has been actively involved at both the national and international levels in advancing the early detection and diagnosis of lung cancer. Within the European SOLACE consortium, he led one of the work packages dedicated to optimizing lung cancer screening. He also played a key role in the development of medical guidelines and position papers supporting the introduction of Germany’s lung cancer screening programme for heavy smokers, which was launched this spring.
