Summer, Sunshine, Cutting-Edge Research: Highlights from the DZL Annual Meeting 2025 in Heidelberg

|   News

From June 30 to July 2, the lung research community gathered for this year’s Annual Meeting of the German Center for Lung Research (DZL) at the new Heidelberg Congress Center – with more than 750 participants and over 450 poster presentations, it was the largest meeting to date.

For three days, presentations, discussions, and networking took center stage: The DZL Annual Meeting 2025 was a great success! The event kicked off on Monday evening with the DZL Academy Reception for early-career researchers – featuring the award for the best translational publication of the year, scientific exchange, a fun quiz, and a vibrant atmosphere.

On Tuesday, the sessions on specific lung diseases began, accompanied by over 450 posters that transformed the congress center into a dynamic scientific stage. All attendees were invited to vote for their favorite posters: a true community-driven selection!

In the evening, the festive conference dinner featured a keynote address by DZL spokesperson Prof. Dr. Werner Seeger. Alongside reflections on the upcoming 2026 evaluation and a deeply felt call to uphold scientific integrity, several poster awards were presented. Within the area of pulmonary hypertension, Luca Dulz(TLRC) impressed with his poster contribution “Deep-Learning Algorithm for Pulmonary Embolism Detection”. Congratulations! The evening concluded with live music and dancing.

Wednesday was dedicated entirely to early-career scientists and the latest insights in lung research. In engaging plenary talks, young researchers presented their highlights, before the DZL community headed home – inspired and well connected.

A heartfelt thank you to all contributors – see you again in 2026!
