About TLRCollege

The Translational Lung Research College (TLRCollege) is the umbrella training programme of the Heidelberg campus of the German Center for Lung Research (DZL): The Translational Lung Research Center Heidelberg (TLRC).

The TLRCollege was established primarily to provide a structured training programme catering to both clinical pulmonologists and lung scientists engaged in basic research. In particular, the programme aims to provide a cross-over approach where natural/medical scientists could acquire knowledge about the pathological entities that their basic research explores, and where clinicians and clinician-scientists could acquire detailed knowledge about basic science methodologies, as well as knowledge about the pathogenic pathways that drive lung disease, at the molecular level. More broadly, the TLRCollege aims to bring the often-separate worlds of the hospital bed and the laboratory bench (be it the wet-lab or the dry-lab) together and promote true translational research as a concept: both in the bench-to-bedside (forward translational) and bedside-to-bench (reverse translation) directions.

The TLRCollege further aims to intensify networking between our local investigators based at our four participating institutions: the University of Heidelberg and Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD), the Thoraxklinik, the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). Lastly, the TLRCollege serves to promote networking, both between the TLRC and the four other DZL campuses, as well as between the TLRC and the other German Centers for Health Research (DZG).
